Reedville Fishermen’s Museum ushers in their 2010 season with the celebration of Family Day on Saturday, March 13. This year’s theme is “Animals of the Chesapeake”. The Museum is collaborating with several local organizations, including the Virginia Wildlife Center, Northern Neck Kennel Club, Northern Neck Bee Keeping Club and Animal Conservation, to provide an engaging program for kids of all ages.

The Virginia Wildlife Center of Waynesboro will present two shows at Family Day, featuring a reptile, raptor and a mammal. The Wildlife Center provides continuing education training for wildlife rehabilitators and these shows are an extension of their services. Shows will be held at noon and at 2:00 pm.

Northern Neck Kennel Club will provide obedience training demonstrations and answer questions from pet owners and those who are curious about our furry friends. The Kennel Club provides a wide range of programs and courses that benefit both our human and canine communities.

Bees will be buzzing around Dave Canby of the Northern Neck Bee Club. Family Day will also showcase the work of Bill Gimble, an entomologist, and his collection of insects… some live! Northumberland Animal Conservation Officer, Ken Williams will share displays on local wildlife and conservation.

Family Day will feature these guests and exhibit interactive stations for family discovery at every turn. In addition, the Claud Sommers and the Elva C will be available for on board tours.

Join us at the Museum for Family Day from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Saturday, March 13. Festival Halle host their Winter Market on the same day, so Reedville will have something for everyone! The second annual Reedville Fishermen’s Museum Family Day will be held on Saturday, February 21st from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. This year’s theme is “The Chesapeake Bay - A Partnership between Humans and Nature”. The event aims to raise awareness about the spirit and wealth of The Bay. Activities will focus on The Bay’s economic importance, its changing culture, and our interdependent livelihood.

Local experts and volunteers will share science and history lessons, the latest data, and interactive displays. Family Day is for kids of all ages. Admission is free. Groups welcome. Food available. Contact 804-453-6529 for further information.

Well-known garden authority and floral designer Don Haynie will again lead two workshops. Famed for his wonderful eye and deft hand, Mr. Haynie is also a masterful instructor. Class size is limited to 15, so sign up early!

Dr. Camille Wells returns as faculty director for this residential symposium examining manifold aspects of the historic architecture and landscape settings of Virginia’s Northern Neck region. The program incorporates a stimulating mix of lectures and site visits, supported by a thoroughly-researched and well-illustrated “guidebook” prepared especially for the symposium.

Donald Haynie, a long time friend of Stratford Hall and a member of the Historic Gardens Advisory Panel, will lead this retreat designed to provide participants with an opportunity to develop and/or hone their skills in producing floral arrangements that will take a variety of forms. The program will close with a judging of arrangements and presentation of awards.

This program is an expanded version of Stratford Hall’s Grandparent/Grandchild camp and is 5 days and four nights. It is open to adults 55 and older and a young relative or friend.

Stratford Hall education staff will offer this interactive introduction to the ever-increasing array of information on Robert E. Lee as well as other Lees available via the Internet. Participants are encouraged to bring their own Web discoveries to share.
